Lauryn Hill’s son, Joshua Omaru Marley, posted a snippet a new Drake song featuring samples Hill’s music to Snapchat earlier this week. The caption read, ““Drake x Mom…Nobody has this but me.”
The 25-second preview, which was uploaded to YouTube, finds the Toronto superstar rapping over samples “Ex Factor” from Hill’s 1998 magnum opus, The Miseducation Lauryn Hill.
“You’ve been inside/ Know you like to lay low/ I’ve been peepin’ what you bringing to the table/ Working hard, girl, everything paid for,” he raps.
But this wasn’t the first time the track has surfaced. A Twitter user shared it on SoundCloud previously, which evidently caught the attention Drake’s label, Universal Music Group. The person responsible for leaking the song was sent a cease and desist letter.
In the letter, the track is labeled, “Showin Off.”
“We have learned that your service is making available, distributing and/or referring/linking users to infringing copies the following sound recordings, the copyrights in which are exclusively owned by one or more IFPI Represented Companies: DRAKE – SHOWIN OFF – Universal Music Group.”
