ER actress Vanessa Marquez was shot and killed during a confrontation with California police on Thursday (August 30).
The Wrap reports that Marquez, 49, was having seizures and possibly suffering from mental health issues.
Lieutenant Joe Mendoza of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement that after 90 minutes of trying to calm Marquez and help her seek care, the actress pulled out a weapon and pointed it at police officers.
It was later revealed to be a BB gun, but Mendoza said that it was a replica of a semi-automatic handgun and officers believed it to be a real weapon at the time.
She was then shot by an officer before being transported to a local hospital where she was announced dead.
Marquez played Nurse Wendy Goldman on the hit show ER from1994 to 1997. She also starred in the '90s sitcom Malcolm & Eddie as well as an episode of Melrose Place.
She also appeared in an episode of Seinfeld as well as having roles in the films Stand and Deliver and Blood In, Blood Out.
