Greg James responds to Taylor Swift 'shower' backlash

Radio 1 DJ Greg James has responded to fan backlash after he jokingly told Taylor Swift to "have a shower" during an interview at the BBC's Biggest Weekend.

On Sunday (May 27), the 'Shake It Off' singer had a chat with Greg straight after her performance in a sweltering Swansea on live TV.

However, he capped off the interview by telling her: "It's nice to see you, and I think you need to have a shower now."

Taylor didn't take offence at the line, adding: "I agree and I'm not offended that you said that, there's a lot going on and none of it's good."

Many people on Twitter, on the other hand, didn't take too kindly to the remark, with quite a few hitting out at Greg:

Although a few others came to the Radio 1 DJ's defence:

Greg himself has responded, writing to a number of fans: "[Taylor] has a great sense of humour and we have known each other for ages and had a good catch up after the interview.

"It's all cool. It was hot up there. I almost said we should both go for a shower but after this reaction I'm glad I didn't!"

He later joked that it was "another zinger for [his] obituary" in a further tweet.
