Rio Ferdinand has opened up about his "emotional" wedding to girlfriend and former The Only Way Is Essex star Kate Wright.
As part of a super-secret three day celebration – where attendees were requested to hand over their phones in order to keep everything as private as possible – the pair wed at the five-star D Maris Bay Hotel in Turkey. Mehmet Oktay, the Mayor of Marmaris, officiated the ceremony.
As part of an exclusive feature with OK! Magazine, the sportsman confessed to tearing up when he first caught a glimpse at his eight-year-old daughter during the luxurious event.
"I cried as soon as the day started. Seeing Tia walk up the aisle before Kate set me off. It was just so emotional. There was just no going back on the emotion, that’s why I had to keep my shades on!"
The 40-year-old also talked about how special it was for his sons Tate, 11, and Lorenz, 13, to walk 28-year-old Kate down the aisle.
"[It] was particularly poignant and we wouldn’t have wanted to do it any other way," he explained. "They were so proud and they couldn’t wait to do that. They felt important."
Rio and Kate – who is the younger sister of TOWIE faves Jessica and Mark Wright – began dating in 2017 following the passing of Rio's first wife Rebecca Ellison two years earlier.
